Overview

A year-long program for dogs with multiple behavioral challenges. It is intended for pet parents who have attempted to address these challenges on their own, and tried different tools but have not achieved significant results. It is for pet parents who recognize that resolving multiple behavior challenges is not a quick process and requires both time and a structured customized approach. This program is based on a positive reinforcement approach, using only force-free and humane tools.

The goal of this program is to give you and your dog enough time to try all the available tools, and for you to learn to become a dog trainer for your own dog. While most dogs may require less than one year, participating for a full year can give you peace of mind, ensuring that you have enough time to complete the program and learn all the necessary tools, even if life is interrupted by vacations, busy work periods, or sickness.

The program includes a combination of private coaching sessions in your home, video lessons, a detailed homework plan for you to work on between sessions, online and offline follow-up consultations, as well as video and written instructions for all exercises. Additionally, you will receive unlimited information support via chat or email.

Clients living in the San Francisco Bay Area will have in-home sessions as part of this program, and clients outside of the San Francisco Bay Area will have all the sessions online (based on Pacific Standard Time).

Why this program

🐶 Most dog behavior issues can be resolved through training and proper management of the environment. It’s just a matter of finding the right combination of tools for your specific dog and that might take time.

Training guidelines are often simple; they just require a certain amount of daily repetitions and knowing which exercise to do first. Exercises can be performed by a willing pet parent after proper coaching. I will help with coaching and choosing the right exercises based on your dog’s situation.

No quick fixes exist in behavior modification, so having long-term support from a dog professional is crucial.

The healing journey will require a lot of patience from the pet parents’ side. Some weeks, you will have time to train your dog several times a day and you will make quick progress, while other weeks, life will get in the way or nothing will seem to work. And sometimes, there will be complete setbacks when nothing seems to be working. This program allows you not to think about the number of sessions to pay your trainer for and just focus on helping your dog (and yourself!).

🧑‍🦰 It’s important for a pet parent to directly participate in behavior modification training.

Most dogs train best in the safety of their home and the presence of their favorite humans. Sending your dog with behavioral issues to a boarding kennel will often result in a dog that will have more behavioral issues long-term, or all the progress will regress back upon return to your house. It’s also too stressful for them to be away from you for long, and you will need to learn to deal with your dog if new issues arise.

How does this program work

1️⃣ We start with an initial assessment and consultation at your home. This session will give me a chance to meet you and your dog, observe their behavior in the safety of your home (if they are not ready to meet a stranger right away, we will find another safer way), and assess your dog’s current situation, skills, and challenges.

2️⃣ I will come up with customized plans and training exercises to address all the issues. We will meet again in a week to discuss this plan and have our first hands-on training coaching session. I will provide you with training exercises and coach you on how to perform them with your dog on a daily / every other day basis. I will also share some guidelines to follow for the next weeks.

3️⃣ First month we will meet weekly, to make sure we are adjusting our training plan based on your dog’s learning speed and other skills. Every time we meet I will coach you on new training exercises and give you updated homework for the next period.

4️⃣ You will start training your dog on a daily basis following a detailed plan with video and text instructions for all the exercises and guidelines. Depending on your availability, this daily training session can be between 10 and 20 minutes a day. If any questions arise, you will be able to contact me via email or text. You will also be expected to fill in some simple training process trackers. It will help us to see our progress.

5️⃣ Our second and third months we will meet bi-weekly for more private coaching sessions. Depending on your dog’s learning speed and progress, as well as your availability to train your dog, I will adjust the training plan and coach you on new exercises every session. After each session, you will receive new updated homework.

6️⃣ Starting from the 4th month, we are going to meet at least once a month to adjust our training plan as needed and review our progress trackers. Between sessions, we will have plenty of online support via chat or email. You will also have access to more training videos and written instructions for new exercises to do with your dog.

7️⃣ Our training program will allow us 12 months to work on all the training goals. Whether you are busy, traveling, or simply need a break from training, you will still have sufficient time to learn how to be a better guardian for your dog. You will learn how to help them with their issues, create a safe and stress-free environment for them and yourself, and effectively resolve any new issues that may arise. All the training videos and written instructions will be accessible to you for another year after the program ends, so you can refer to them whenever needed.
